TRAVEL TO LANZAROTE

Lanzarote is a beautiful and unique island in the Canary Archipelago, known for its volcanic landscapes, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture. Here's a travel guide to help you make the most of your trip to Lanzarote:

When to Visit:

Lanzarote enjoys a mild climate throughout the year, making it an ideal destination at any time.

If you want to avoid crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and fall (September to November).

Getting There:

By Air: The main airport is Lanzarote Airport (ACE), which is well-connected to major European cities.

By Sea: Ferries connect Lanzarote to other Canary Islands and the Spanish mainland.

Getting Around:

Renting a car is the most convenient way to explore the island. Roads are well-maintained, and traffic is usually light.

Taxis and buses are also available, but they might be less flexible for exploring remote areas.

Accommodation:

Lanzarote offers a range of accommodations, from luxury resorts to charming boutique hotels.

Popular areas to stay include Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, and Costa Teguise.

Things to Do and See:

Timanfaya National Park:

Explore the otherworldly landscapes shaped by volcanic activity.  Take a guided tour to fully appreciate the unique geological formations.

Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua:

Visit these stunning underground caves and tunnels formed by lava flows.  Jameos del Agua includes a beautiful natural concert hall and a unique swimming pool.

Mirador del Rio:

Enjoy panoramic views of the neighboring island of La Graciosa.  The viewpoint was designed by artist Cesar Manrique.

El Golfo:

Visit the green lagoon, a volcanic crater filled with striking green water. Enjoy fresh seafood at the waterfront restaurants.

Papagayo Beaches:

Relax on the pristine white sandy beaches of Papagayo.  The crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

Cactus Garden (Jardín de Cactus):

Explore a unique garden with over 1,400 species of cacti from around the world.  Another creation of Cesar Manrique.

Teguise Market:

Visit the Sunday market in Teguise for local crafts, souvenirs, and street food.

Local Cuisine:

Try traditional Canarian dishes like "papas arrugadas" (wrinkled potatoes) with "mojo" sauce and "gofio" (roasted grain flour). Seafood is a must-try, given the island's coastal location.

Cultural Tips:

Respect the local customs and traditions, as the people of Lanzarote take pride in preserving their culture. Learn a few basic Spanish phrases, although English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Safety:

Lanzarote is generally a safe destination, but it's always wise to take standard precautions. Be cautious while swimming, as ocean currents can be strong.

Final Tips:

Purchase the "Lanzarote Card" for discounts on attractions and transportation. Check local events and festivals happening during your visit. Lanzarote's unique landscapes and cultural richness make it an extraordinary destination. Whether you're into outdoor adventures or simply seeking relaxation, this island has something for everyone.

g10 IN LANZAROTE

We visited the island in January 2024 and stayed in Playa Blanca.  From when we arrived at the airport to when when we left we found the island to be great. Fresh food and great weather is exactly what you want when its cold and dark in the UK.  Playa Blanca is a popular resort town located on the southern coast of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. Known for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, and vibrant atmosphere, Playa Blanca attracts visitors seeking a relaxing beach holiday.

We stayed at the Hipotels Natura Palace in Playa Blanca - a great 4 star hotel on the seafront. It was an adult only hotel which was perfect for us and it was half board. The food was amazing and a great selection and the staff were so helpful. They also offered so extra touches like a glass of champagne on arrival. We will return there at some point in the future for sure.
